Suffah Welfare Centre Report of the 1st Four Months
Reflections

There are two major ills of our society.

1. Illiteracy

2. Poverty

 

To combat these ills, we in September 2002 started the following services under the banner of Suffah Welfare Centre.

Free Medical Treatment

i. A free dispensary has been set up where experienced doctors are available during specific timings for checkups.

ii. Free medicines are provided at the clinic.

iii. Anti- natal care for pregnant women is provided through the services of a lady doctor.

iv. Emergency treatment for asthmatic patients with Oxygen and nebulizer is available at the clinic.

v. Glucometer with sticks is available for treatment of Diabetes.

vi. De-worming of children.

vii. Treatment of scabies.

viii. Treatment of anemia especially in children and women.

ix. Other first aid facilities.

x. Creating awareness among the people regarding various health hazards.

Helping Needy People

The following items and cash were distributed free of cost among needy people:

i. Grocery items and everyday edible items like flour, rice, cooking oil, sugar and pulses.

ii. Winter clothes

iii. Eid Gifts among 20 families which included vermecilli, sugar, milk, edible oil and some dry fruit.

iv. Special Eid packets for children containing toys, sweets, biscuits, artificial jewelry, henna and bangles.

v. Medicines to some poor patients for diabetes, hypertension and depression.

vi. Milk for malnourished children.

vii. Walker for the rehabilitation of a disabled patient.

viii. Rs 5000 to a family to build their Roof of two rooms.

ix. Rs 5000 to a poor family of which both husband and wife were blind for the installation of their Electrical Meter.

x. Rs 7600 for bridal clothes for two poor girls.

Education

The following activities were initiated in this regard:

i. A small library of audio, video cassettes, audio CDs ,VCDs and books was set up.

ii. A free patchwork class for women was initiated from November 2002.

iii. Free sewing and cutting classes for women were launched in January 2003.

iv. Free basic computer courses for boys and girls were initiated from January 2003.

v. A literacy class of 22 students was started in a nearby mosque. In this class, the course of 1st three classes of Punjab Text board will be taught in almost one year.

vi. Stationery items like books, copies, rubber, pencils and sharpners were provided by center.

Future Programs

The following programs are being planned for the future:

i. Provision of free mobile health services to slum areas.Establishing a laboratory for basic tests, X-ray and Ultra sound facilities.

ii. Providing free specialist’s consultation.

iii. Forming a kid’s club with a good children’s library.

iv. Providing assistance in education of intelligent and poor students.

v. Starting Qur’ānic lectures at the center.
