The Dress of a Pilgrim
Question asked by .
Answered by Dr. Shehzad Saleem

Can sweaters, socks or an underwear be worn in Hajj with the ihrām?

The apparel that has been prescribed for pilgrims is one that reflects simplicity in its ultimate sense. It symbolizes his detachment from the world he generally lives in. Men are required to wear two un-stitched woven sheets. Whatever else they may wear should also be un-stitched. Sweaters, socks and underwears should therefore be avoided. Women are exempted from this requirement.
